Dental Implants in China: Cost per Tooth in 2026

A dental implant in China costs about RMB 5,500–6,500 ($775–915) per tooth all-in at public hospitals — implant, abutment, crown, and surgery — under national price caps. US average: $4,200–4,800 per tooth. Same hardware brands.

That's not a clinic's promo price. It's the arithmetic of two government policies, both public documents. Here's how the number is built.

Why the price is capped: two policies

Policy 1 — the hardware. In January 2023, China ran national bulk procurement for implant systems (implant + abutment kit). Winning bids averaged about RMB 900 per set, a 55% cut (Guizhou Medical Insurance Bureau, 2023-01-13, verified 2026-07-07). Major Korean and European systems participated.

Policy 2 — the labor. From April 2023, the medical-service fee for a single conventional implant at public hospitals is capped at RMB 4,500; Beijing set 4,300–4,500 (Beijing municipal government, 2023-03-27, verified 2026-07-07), and provinces like Liaoning wrote "no more than RMB 4,300 per implant" into policy (Liaoning provincial government, 2023-04, verified 2026-07-07).

Add it up: capped service fee (≤4,500) + procured implant system (~900–1,900 depending on brand) + crown = the RMB 5,500–6,500 all-in figure, consistent with China Daily's reporting on the reform.

Where to go

The prestige pick is West China Stomatology in Chengdu — the country's benchmark public dental hospital and, usefully, in a city where everything else (hotels, food) costs less than Beijing or Shanghai. Every provincial capital also has a public stomatology hospital working under the same fee caps. For zero-Chinese-language service with Western-style scheduling, United Family's dental clinics publish English prices — you're paying roughly 3x the public rate for that comfort.

The two-trip reality

Standard implant timelines don't care which country you're in: placement first, then 3–6 months of osseointegration, then the crown. Plan two trips, or pair trip one with a China holiday and schedule the crown for a return visit. Single-visit immediate-load protocols exist for select cases — a clinical decision your dentist makes from your CBCT scan, not something to shop for.

Practical notes: bring your passport for registration; public-hospital dental slots book out, so arrange the appointment before you fly; ask for the implant brand and model in writing (it's on the invoice — Chinese invoices itemize the hardware); and get your imaging and surgical records translated so your home dentist can take over maintenance.

Honest math for one tooth

Fly from the US for a single implant and the savings (~$3,400 vs US average) roughly cover a round-trip ticket and a week's stay — worthwhile only if you wanted the China trip anyway. The economics get decisive at two or more implants, or when you combine dental work with a full health checkup week. From the UK, the per-tooth saving is slimmer; from elsewhere in Asia, it's a short-haul no-brainer.

Why trust these numbers

The public-hospital figures above trace to named government policy documents with dates — not clinic ads. The premium figure is the provider's own published package price. We grade every source and publish only high-confidence dental prices; anything softer is marked "we're verifying." Report an error and we correct within 48 hours, with the change logged.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a dental implant cost in China?

At public hospitals, roughly RMB 5,500–6,500 (about $775–915) per tooth all-in — implant, abutment, crown, and surgery — under national price caps. Premium international clinics start around RMB 20,880 (~$2,940). Verified July 2026.

Why are dental implants so cheap in China?

Government intervention. A 2023 national bulk-procurement program cut implant-system prices to about RMB 900 per set (down 55%), and public-hospital service fees for a single implant are capped at RMB 4,500. The hardware is the same Korean and European brands sold worldwide.

Are Straumann and other Western implant brands available in China?

Yes. Straumann, Nobel-tier, and major Korean systems (Osstem, Dentium) are all in the Chinese market, many at negotiated bulk-procurement prices. Brand and model are printed on your invoice — verify before surgery.

How many trips to China does an implant take?

Usually two: placement, then crown fitting after 3–6 months of healing. Some immediate-load cases compress this — whether you qualify is a clinical call for your dentist.
